Summer 2019 Design Update

It's been a hot minute since I've done one of these! I admit, the frequency of my design work declines during the summer compared to the school year. I try to exercise my design skills in different ways during the summer, in ways I might not have the time to when I have classes to worry about. During the summer, I can usually seek out challenges to participate in or even receive freelance work. I'll show what I've been up to in this post!

One of the easiest ways I can keep working on design is my bullet journal. I like to theme my months, and during the summer I can spend more time on them. For July, I went with a neutral color palette and a scrap-book look. For more information about how bullet journaling works, check out the post I wrote on it here!

I also participated in a design challenge put on by my university's program. They challenged the design students to revamp one of their projects. I decided to revamp the first branding project I did in the fall 2018 semester. The original project is on my website here, and I wanted to re-brand it into something that looked luxurious and high-end.

In this mock up of a branding set, you can see that I revamped the logo, colors, and pattern for this fictional brand. The gold gradient on the logo was something I hadn't done before, and since I have completed these pieces, I understand the gradient tool in Illustrator better!

Right now I have the privilege of working on two projects for clients! One of them is still in the discussion phase, but as you can see from the mood board above, the other one is in full swing. I'm doing a full re-brand for a business in my hometown, website, branding, packaging, promotional and product photography, the whole nine yards. Some might say it seems like a lot of work, but it keeps me busy!

These are drafts of the client's new logo and some ideas for labels. I'm learning a lot through these projects, about working with clients and managing my own time well, and also the business side of what I do. I hope as I continue on this path, both as a freelancer and a student, that I can learn a lot more!

Keep an eye on my social media for sneak peeks of my most current projects and all sorts of other stuff! I use Instagram the most, so you can find that here.

Thanks for reading!

xx, Hannah
